Flying a Kite

The only time Coco and I really had to spend at the beach, was just the few hours we spent strolling with our niece Allie in Port Hueneme. We decided to take a kite with us and I think we spent more time untangling the string than actually flying the kite. But Allie was happy playing in the sand while Uncle Coco untangled the string. I miss flying kites and strolling along the beach, so for me it was just perfect. And the weather was great of course.

The Big Fresno Fair

Coco is pretty sure he's never been to a real fair here in California. So I thought it was time he had the chance to experience all that fried food, games, rides, lights, and randomly...a performance by Billy Idol. We had a great time walking around, we ate a "Super Nacho," stopped by the petting zoo and other exhibits. And maybe the best part, we ate a big scoop of peach champagne gelato together.

Earlier in the day we went to Boomers to play mini-golf and drive the go-carts. While we were there we stumbled upon a pumpkin patch.

Celebrating a Birthday and Walking among Giants

I've been telling Coco about the giant trees in Yosemite for a while and I have been insisting that we go there while we're in California. He's always seemed somewhat interested, but he never really seemed to believe that the trees were that big. But I showed him! We had the chance to visit the trees with my dad and my grandpa. It was amazing. I haven't been there in years and it is so beautiful and overwhelming to walk through that forest. And Coco was pretty impressed.

We also went to the old Wawona Hotel and walked around a nearby historical site.

And Coco learned a little bit more about being a mountain man the next day when he spent all day splitting logs for firewood.

We also celebrated my birthday last week. Coco spent all day baking this amazing chocolate cake. My family was there and it felt great to have them with me. I can't remember the last birthday I spent surrounded by family.
