Party Time at the Preschool

Last week was Children´s Education week here in Peru. So all week my preschool did several special events to celebrate. And on Friday we had a fabulous coustume party. The kids pretty much broke my heart in their costumes. There was alot of dancing, food (homemade peruvian food by the parents....delicious, trust me), cake, some games, and a piƱata. I wish we had a costume party every day!

The kids all looked great! And I pulled out the only costume I could in about 15 min, La Super Gringa. The teachers got it, but the kids didn´t quite get it. Haha.

Katelynn and Lori Li

A couple weekends ago I went to my friend´s house to have a little photo session with her two beautiful daughters. My friend is an amazing mother and her children are adorable. I was happy to be in their house playing and taking pictures with them. Here´s some of the best from that day.

My Preschool´s Mother´s Day Celebration

My Preschool also celebrated Mother´s Day in style. As a tribute to all the moms, we organized a Mother´s Day performance in a nearby elementary school. My students and I sang a song in English at the beginning of the show. And following our act was a series of dancing, singing, and karate acts. In the end all the mothers were invited on stage to dance along with the students. It was so much fun to watch the children. Little kids up on stage are always such a riot. This performance was no exception.

Surprise Lunch Flight

Last weekend was Mother´s Day and I hope everyone had the chance to spend some time with their mother. I was lucky enough to talk to my mom on skype for a while and that meant so much to me. And here on the base in Iquitos there are a few Air Force traditions for Mother´s Day that I had the chance to be a part of.

Normally all the officers host a lunch and later an evening show with comedy sketches and dancing. So let´s talk about the lunch first. Coco told me I had to go to the base and enter the Squad room where all of women would have lunch. So we all sat together and the Major started to make a little speech about how valuable our support is to our husbands and so on and so on....and then he said, ¨Oh, I have a special message from the Coronel. It says that all the wives are to report for duty at the docks of the twin otter planes for a special mission.¨ Next thing we know we walk through a hallway and are given our husband´s flight suit and we are wisked away on the twin otter planes to take a flight over the city. It was a total surprise, and it was amazing! Here´s some pictures from the day.

Our flight started at the air base very close to our house and took us all around the city. The river is particularly high right now and the city looked different from the air than it normally does. Here´s some pictures I took from the plane.

Obviously I had a great time and it was one of the best surprises ever.
