Kurt Cobain is Alive!!!!.....in Peru

Photo from: http://www.larepublica.pe/21-04-2012/yo-soy-ramiro-el-kurt-cobain-del-misti

For those of you who are Nirvana fans you`ll really appreciate this. If I believed in reincarnation I would say that Kurt Cobain has been reincarnated in the body of a young Peruvian guy. I´ve never seen a Kurt Cobain impersonator, but this guy has to be the best. He auditioned for a show in Peru called `Yo Soy` that is basically a contest to see who can impersonate a particalur musician the best. This 27year old guy from Arequipa has been the star of the contest since he auditioned. He´s the biggest thing in Peru right now and he has tens of thousands of fans now all througout Latin America. We`ve been watching this show just to see this kid play. You would swear you were actually watching Kurt Cobain sing. Well, I´ll let the video footage speak for itself. But needless to say, Coco and I are rooting for him.

If the link doesn´t work for you, just search youtube for 'Kurt Cobain Yo Soy`

Here was my moment of fame on Yo Soy.

Just kidding, we found this photo cutout in a mall. I would make a horrible Shakira.

Flowers

Coco´s been bringing home flowers once in a while. He sneaks out in the mornings to buy us fresh bread for breakfast and sometimes comes back with flowers.  He buys them from a woman who sells them on a little corner near the house. It´s very thoughtful of him and it always lifts my spirit. Some days I´ve felt a little overwhelmed with all the paperwork we´re taking care of here, and it feels incredibly strange to both be currently unemployed. I feel a bit stressed and scared about the daunting task of starting a whole new life together in another country. But, I did do it once before, and fortunately I have Coco to lean on through all of it. We´re counting down the days together....we will be home in less than two and a half weeks! And as flowers eventually decay, I started to photograph Coco´s flowers in hopes of preserving them forever.

El Parque de la Exposición

Yesterday we went to El Parque de La Exposicion. It´s a beatiful green open space in downtown Lima. It houses museums of contemporary and older works of art. There are many art pieces and sculptures all through out the park and they also host concerts and dramatic performances. It´s a peaceful place to get away from the chaos of the city. We made our way around the whole park and managed to see a few exhibits in one of the art museums.

Puerto Viejo

We are still playing the waiting game here....waiting on paperwork from the Air Force...and I´m not even going to begin to desribe our frustration with the process, at this point it´s the only thing standing in the way of our move. In order to take our mind off of the waiting, we´ve been going to the beach. And when you don´t have internet or cable in your house, it seems like the best possible free entertainment. We went with a few friends to a beach in the south called ¨Puerto Viejo.¨ The beaches in the south are popular for surfing and of course we chose that beach so Coco and his friend could find a few waves. It was a bit cold as the fog hovered over us most of the day, but it was just the distraction we needed.

Lunahuana

Last Friday we went on a tour with Tia Laura to celebrate her birthday. We went with her and some friends to a place called Lunahuana. It´s a place famous for wine and pisco vineyards, sports like river rafting, dirtbiking, horseback riding, and ziplining. It´s also famous for a fried fish called Trucha, Chupe de Camarones, and delicious cremoladas.

Our first stop was at a beach called Cerro Azul.

Then we stopped at a winery to try some pisco and wine.

We walked a bit around the city.

There were places along the highway where you could see the original road used by the Inkas. The ridge line in this picture shows the actual road.

We ate lunch. Then we headed to the next winery.

At this old winery everything was made organically. And it was by far the best Pisco I´ve ever had.
