A Two Minute Tour

There are so many nooks and crannies of Iquitos which I have not yet uncovered for you. But little by little is better I think. So let’s go to the Plaza De Armas for a look at some things….

Okay…here we have the church. Its big, its bold, and its beautiful, verdad? Yeah well it’s the biggest Catholic church in Iquitos and it is also the gathering place for many cultural events.

On this particular night people were gathered for a protest of some sort and they armed the church with many candles.

Here we have the fountain. It is rarely flowing with water. I think I have seen it flowing maybe three times in 2 months. I always feel privileged to see it. Around the fountain you can always find children blowing bubbles and vendors asking you to buy jewelry or cigarettes.

Here we have the Iron House. This is a structure built entirely out of iron and is considered one of the major landmarks of Iquitos. Okay, so I think it’s the only landmark of Iquitos. But a fun fact about this place, it was built by Mr. Eiffel. Yes, that’s right, it was built by the same man who built the Eiffel Tower. Maybe he used this structure as practice.

Okay well that is a very brief overview of the Plaza. More to come later.
